The U.S. federal government is divided into three branches—Executive, Legislative and Judicial. They are in a sense represented by the White House, Capitol building and Supreme Court building.

The President lives with his family in the White House. Congress conducts business in the Capitol, while the most important judges in the nation hear cases in the Supreme Court.

Of course, there are other government buildings that also have symbolic meaning. They include the Pentagon, which serves as headquarters for the U.S. military. While people have mixed feelings about the White House, Capitol and Supreme Court, the Pentagon is probably the most feared building in the world.

Even many U.S. citizens fear and hate the Pentagon. Can you guess why?
