There are countless objects and ideas that can be considered unofficial symbols of the United States. The Liberty Bell has already been mentioned under Statues & Memorials. However, it isn’t really a statue or memorial, so it’s listed again on this page.

Uncle Sam is another very famous American symbol. Like so many U.S. symbols, Uncle Sam is associated with war. However, he is more widely seen as a symbol of patriotism.

Other unofficial symbols include great engineering feats, like San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. The first moon landing is a symbol of America’s scientific prowess. Cultural symbols include Hollywood, Disneyworld and maybe even hamburgers and French fries—or junk food in general.

In other words, things that many people associate with America can be considered U.S. symbols. How many such symbols can you think of?
